Dr Mark Dimitri is a triple-qualified specialist in respiratory, sleep, and general and acute care medicine.
Inspired by his late mother Susan, Mark believes there is a vast difference between “healing”and “treating.” Mark takes the time to understand his patients and treats every patient with the same care, time and attention he would offer his own family.
As a respiratory physician, Mark has a keen focus on the work-up of undifferentiated breathlessness, airways disease, interstitial lung disease and the early detection of lung cancer. He recognises the interplay between psychology and the perception of breathlessness, and how this impacts the patient journey.
Mark is a keen advocate for sleep as a pillar of health. He specialises in core sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia. Mark is fascinated by the intersection between sleep physiology and philosophy, including the function and nature of dreams.
Mark’s perspective has been shaped by extensive work in rural and regional settings, including Christmas Island and outreach clinics linked to the Royal Darwin Hospital. He has a long-standing commitment to providing culturally sensitive care.
An award-winning educator, Mark has a long history of teaching at every level of training, from medical students and junior doctors to specialist trainees, nurses, allied health professionals and community groups. He is equally committed to patient education, allowing time in every consultation to help patients understand their health and participate in shared decision-making.
Outside of medicine, Mark loves music and is a percussionist in a roots band with two best friends.
